Millions

Millions are tiny chewy sweets with a hard sugar shell, made by Golden Casket in Greenock and named for the fact that you cannot count them. Created in the early 1990s, the range now runs from tubes to jars and takes in Vimto and Iron Brew alongside the fruit flavours. Sweet and Glory stocks Millions wholesale for UK retailers.

The sweet is named after the quantity you get, not the flavour.

Millions came out of Greenock in the early 1990s, the idea of Douglas Rae, who had built Golden Casket from a small confectionery marketing outfit in 1959 into a manufacturer with its own factory at Fort Matilda. The premise was simple enough to be a joke: make the sweet so small that a handful is uncountable, and name it after the number.

What makes them work is the construction. Each piece is a tiny chewy centre finished with a hard sugar shell, so the first moment is a crack and everything after it is a chew. At that size the effect compounds - nobody eats one - and the tube format means you pour rather than pick. It created a category that did not exist before and still has no real competitor.

The flavour list gives away where they come from. Alongside the fruit flavours sit Vimto and Iron Brew, two drinks that mean far more in Britain than anywhere else, and the range has since extended into jelly babies and squishies built on the same idea. Golden Casket is still family-run, now into its third generation of the Rae family, and still in Greenock.

The Millions Range

The tube is the format the brand is known for and the one that sells at a counter. Beyond it the range runs to large jars for pick-and-mix and scooping, jelly babies, and squishies in both British and imported-style flavours. Flavours cover the fruit spread plus the soft-drink range that the brand is recognised for. Check the current range for what is in stock now.

Why Stock Millions?

Millions is one of the few British sweet brands that people ask for by name rather than by type, which makes it an easy line rather than a display job. The tubes sit at a pocket-money price and the jars serve a completely different customer - party planning, event catering, pick-and-mix - off the same listing. For a shop carrying both, the brand covers two price points without duplicating shelf space.

It is also a useful counterweight in a range built mostly on American imports. Customers who find the US flavour profile too sweet recognise Millions immediately, and the Vimto and Iron Brew lines in particular sell to people who would not pick up an imported bar. Stocking both sides of that divide widens who walks out with something.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are Millions sweets?

Tiny chewy sweets, roughly the size of a grain of rice, each with a hard sugar shell around a chewy centre. They are sold loose in tubes, jars and bags rather than as individual pieces.

Who makes Millions?

Golden Casket, a family-run confectionery manufacturer in Greenock, Scotland. The company was founded by Douglas Rae in 1959 and is now run by the third generation of the family.

Why are they called Millions?

Because of how small they are. The sweets are tiny enough that a single serving runs to hundreds of pieces, and the name plays on the idea that you could not count them.

What flavours do Millions come in?

The range covers the standard fruit flavours alongside soft-drink flavours including Vimto and Iron Brew. Availability changes, so check the current range on this page.
